The humble Oat

So are they actually healthy for us? Yes, oats are a brilliant source of carbohydrates and fibre. These carbohydrates are great for preparing your muscles before a workout by supplying the body with the energy it needs to work out well. They are digested by the body at a slow pace, meaning that the energy is spread out across the workout instead of spiking and then crashing early on. This slow release is thanks to Beta-Glucan fibre, additionally this fibre also helps to regulate blood glucose. On top of this oats contain Thiamin, Folic acid Biotin, Vitamin E, Iron, and Vitamin B3 which all contribute to keeping your body healthy and helping to ward off illness.

Compared to other grains oats are fairly high in protein. 40 grams of Oats will provide the body with 7g of protein which is a great natural way of including it into your diet. They are great for those counting Macro’s, with a great balance of the good stuff! Oats can also help with suppressing the appetite, as they help you stay full for longer, resisting the urge to pick up that snack and helping to lose body fat.

Neutral in taste and texture, oats have the benefit of being perfect for adding to any sweet or savoury dish. This helps to bulk food out, make you fuller and get your intake of macros! But don't just take our word for it, start adding this little wonders into your meals and let us know how you get on!
